Job Opportunity: Medior-Senior AI Engineer / Machine Learning Engineer – Netherlands
Location: On-site or hybrid (Netherlands – multiple locations, with strong demand in the Brainport region)
Employment Type: ZZP (freelance) or Payroll (employed via agency)

About the Role
The Brainport region is a national center of excellence for artificial intelligence research and development, with growing investment in AI applications across healthcare, high-tech systems, semiconductors, and logistics. Organizations are actively building and deploying machine learning models to drive innovation, automation, and intelligent decision-making.
We are seeking experienced AI and Machine Learning Engineers to support the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI solutions. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong technical foundation in machine learning frameworks and model lifecycle management who are eager to work on impactful, real-world applications.
Who You Are
You are a skilled AI or Machine Learning Engineer with hands-on experience in developing and operationalizing machine learning models. You combine deep technical expertise with a practical approach to solving complex business and engineering challenges. You are comfortable working in R&D-intensive environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
You may have held roles such as:
- AI Engineer
- Machine Learning Engineer
- ML Developer
- Data Scientist with engineering focus
- MLOps Engineer
You are proficient in translating research concepts into production-grade systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and train machine learning models for applications in computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), or predictive analytics
- Implement and optimize models using frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
- Deploy and monitor models in production environments using MLOps practices
- Build and maintain scalable data and model pipelines
- Work with large datasets and integrate models into broader software or hardware systems
- Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts
- Stay up to date with advancements in AI, including large language models (LLMs) and generative AI
Requirements
Essential:
- Fluent in Dutch and English (both written and spoken)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in machine learning, AI development, or related engineering roles
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Proven experience with tools such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
- Hands-on experience with MLOps tools and practices (e.g., model versioning, CI/CD for ML, monitoring)
- Practical knowledge of NLP, computer vision, or LLMs
- Experience in technology-driven sectors such as healthcare, semiconductors, or logistics
- Available for ZZP or payroll engagement
Preferred Certifications:
- TensorFlow Developer Certificate
- DeepLearning.AI certifications (e.g., Deep Learning Specialization, TensorFlow in Practice)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate
- Other relevant AI/ML or cloud-based AI certifications
Technology Stack (Familiarity Expected):
- Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch
- Scikit-learn, Hugging Face, LangChain (as applicable)
- MLOps tools (MLflow, Kubeflow, Azure ML, Weights & Biases)
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Git, Docker, Kubernetes (for model deployment)
